Serving the International Church of Barcelona

“I used to be afraid of failing at things that really mattered to me. Now I’m more afraid of succeeding at things that don’t matter.”

Many of you knew 11 months ago I was boarding a plane to Barcelona with plans to start a career in International Business. However, it was only the brink of a journey far different than I ever imagined, and I couldn’t be more excited to share with you what unfolded in the last year.

During a trying first month in Spain, I walked into the doors of the International Church of Barcelona, a vibrant diverse community of 60+ nationalities, pastored by missionaries from Florida, John and Brandi Carrano. The atmosphere was electric, and I, like countless others was welcomed in as if part of their family.

Fast forward 10 months, after volunteering as ICB’s graphic designer all year and feeling so compelled to give back to the community that shaped me in so many ways, I decided to partner with ICB and will be returning to Spain as full-time staff with the International Church in February 2017. I have never met a team of people more hard-working, sacrificial, enthusiastic, and dedicated to serving people and am excited for what God will accomplish through them in the coming years. My personal skills will be used in several ways; I will serve as a leader on the creative and design team, maintain a home that serves as a safe haven for women, and assist in the opening of a multi-purpose coffee shop in downtown Barcelona. This coffee shop will be used as a hub for church outreach events, a meeting space for mentoring, and really as an introduction of the Church to the local Catalan and Spanish people. Unlike South Carolina, churches are not located on every corner and most people have been burned by a culture that tells them God is an irrelevant historical figure that wants nothing to do with his people today.

One of the reasons ICB exists is to reveal that this idea couldn’t be further from the truth and introduce people to a personal God that is alive and active today. My heart is heavy to help people, and there is nothing I want more than for people to experience a vibrant purpose driven life.

Our team’s leadership has incredible vision and the momentum at which God is accomplishing his plans is almost tangible. So many lives are being touched and so many more will be changed in the years to come. I can tell you this with confidence because my life was touched and changed in the best way possible, and I have committed the next two years of my life to helping others experience the same.

Missions like this takes a lot of time, passion, money, and prayer. My two year term will be mostly funded and supported by people like you who may not have the time to spend but can help change lives through giving resources and prayers. As I am stepping into this new season as a missionary, I want to say a huge THANK YOU for your prayers and financial support, both of which are making this possible! Below you will find specific ways to give, and please don’t forget to sign up for my newsletter so we can stay connected!
